Upsidedown push-up

Did you know….Paddy Dole did 1,940 push-ups in one hour!?

Here I'm doing an upsidedown push-up

Push-up is one of the most complete exercises one can perform. It incorporates at least 23 muscles throughout the body (mainly upper body  but also the thighs are involved), several joints (making this a compound exercise), it’s functional, it’s a do anywhere move as it is a body weight exercise.

The proper form is: Start by laying prone on the floor. Put your hands slightly wider than your shoulder-width at chest level. Raise your body up, keeping you core tight while the weight will be on your hands and toes. Make sure that you keep a straight line. No sagging butt (when your low back sways too much) nor hiking butts (when your butt is “sky-high). A beginner will start on their knees. The more”square” you are the easier it is. Practice makes perfect!

Paddy Dole of UK holds the Guinness World Record for the most push-ups done in one hour (2007), an unbelievable amount of 1,940!

Books

Book Review: Cardio Strength Training

When I read this book I was hoping for something more unique than what is presented here. If you haven’t spent a lot of time in the fitness world like I have you will for sure find this more interesting than someone with experience.

However, the concept of this book is how to combine two styles of workouts into to one to save time and increase intensity. A combo of strength training and cardio in the same workout is nothing new but this book can give you some new ideas on how to spice up a boring and/or long exercise routine. The book combines kettlebells, barbells, body weight, TRX and dumbbell exercises into a variety of mixes and various ways to use intervals.

Personally, I like the book but wasn’t really head-over-heels over it either. This book is something you could browse through when you go to the book store and you will get the main ideas by flipping through the pages.

Berry Bliss Morning

Berry blissful morning

My very blissful morning smoothie!

In the mornings I have started this “juicing” thing but I make more of a puree of fruits and vegetables as it has more fiber than if you are juicing but it’s still easily digested and less intrusive on the stomach. Today I made this blend:

1 organic orange

4 strawberries

1 handful blueberries

1 handful blackberries

1 handful raspberries

1 stalk celery

I put it all in a blender and let it go until smooth.
